Melton Mowbray

The market town of Melton Mowbray has seen many changes to its stock of public houses both in openings and closures and also in the brewery logos that adorn the premises. The two town breweries, Adcock & Pacey and Langtons are long gone but the more recent closure of the Nottingham based Home Brewery and the sale of other breweries' estates has resulted a new image for many of Melton's pubs.

The largest of the Home Ales premises was the Kings Head Hotel on Nottingham Street (below). The familiar Robin Hood logo can be seen above the first floor windows.

Another former Homes Ales pub is the Black Swan on Sherrard Street, seen below with the distinctive stone clad frontage.

Further along Sherrard Street was The White Hart, a Marston's brewery house. Now closed and converted for use as a restaurant.

Midway along Nottingham Street stands The White Lion Hotel this carried Ansells brewery signage and what appears to be a fresh coat of paint in this 1994 view of a quiet pedestrianised street.
